After another ferry journey and a layover night in Mindelo, we
flew to Sal again, from where we flew on to Boa Vista.
Twin Otter |
This time we got to fly with a smaller aircraft, which
didn't fly as high, so we had a better view. The photo to
the right below shows the town Sal Rei on Boa Vista where
we stayed at hotel near the shore near the middle of the
picture.
Boa Vista |
The airport terminal at Boa Vista |
After landing the only real mishap became apparent, as one
couple's large suitcase hadn't been loaded on the aircraft.
It wasn't lost, but it didn't come to Boa Vista until it
was time for us to leave the island. (The terminal is not
larger than shown in the photo.)
Landscape near Rabil, the vegetation grows in the (dry) riverbed |
This island has a distinctly different character from the
others. São Vicente may have been dry, but it didn't give
the same "desert" appearance as Boa Vista, which is much
flatter with larger expanses of sand and gravel, and
a few volcanic core mountains.
Povoacao Velha |
Vegetation was rather nonexistent over most of the island, which
we got to see a lot of.
Most of Boa Vista looked like this |
Praia de Sta Mónica |
Sal Rei |
"Sal Rei" means "Salt King", which the town is named after the salt production business which used to be important on Boa Vista. Nowadays it seems like it's tourism which may bring in some money. There's lots of fantastic beaches, so I'm not surprised tourist resorts are being built there.
Early desert morning outside Sal Rei |
I really enjoyed myself in Cape Verde and wouldn't hesitate to recommend anyone to go there, as it's very interesting place.
There's no special problems I can think of to warn about.
