FASA Development of FASA, a computerbased system for threat analysis (attack/recce) started 'several years' ago. Initially it was supposed to be used for 'operational studies', meaning more or less development of tactics. Now it is beeing introduced on every squadron, but to take advantage of its full capability the aircraft must be upgraded as well (to AJS 37 standard). Modifications to the aircraft: - Transfer of data FASA-aircraft-FASA (tape?) - Enhanced computer, with data bus - Video camera through HUD - Recording of aircraft trajectory, radar data, HUD camera data, RWR, radio traffic... The ground part of FASA looks like a normal workstation, with a large colour monitor. From the sample pictures it is obvious you need a mouse to use it. It looks real easy to insert waypoints and change things like speed and time on target. Most of the screen is a map picture. The unique things are that you both evaluate a mission and plan the next at the same workstation and that you use the system the same in training and in war. No printer is shown, but to the similar system TUAS for JA 37 (fighter) belongs a colour printer. Proposed new things on AJS 37: - Colour MFD (makes sense if you plan on screen, now there is only the HUD, 'raw radar', and conventional instruments - PRATOR (PRATande datOR), speaking computer for 'ground warning and tactical information' Text updated 1991 June 01 by Urban Fredriksson
