Aircraft types which might have, but didn't enter Swedish service

This is of course a subjective selection of what should be counted as a type intended for service or not, so as a list it's not complete.

J 9, Seversky Republic EP-106

120 were ordered and 60 delivered (so maybe it really doesn't belong in this list?).

The 60 which weren't delivered ended up with the USAAC as P-35 nr 41-17434 - 41-17493, of which 48 were sent to the Phillippines were they for a short time had both Swedish and US markings.

The remaining 12 were used as advanced trainers for a time and then handed over to Ecuador where they were the only fighters during the 1939-45 war.

J 10, Vultee 48C Vanguard

In January 1940 60 were ordered, in February 84 more, which was all the maker had engines and other equipment on order for.

Due to the US export prohibition in July they were never delivered. They were taken over by the USAAC as P-66 with nr 42-6932 - 42-6974. 100 of them were then intended for the RAF as advanced trainer (to be flown in Canada), but they never entered RAF service. 15 were kept in the US as trainers, 129 were sent to China, but only 79 arrived and were used in the fight against the Japanese.

B 6, Republic Guardsman

52 Republic 2P-A Guardsman Model 204A were ordered, but only two were delivered before the US embargo in July 1940.

They were used by the USAAC as advanced trainers with the designation AT-12, nr 41-17494 - 41-17543.

S 10, Breguet 694

This was a variant of the Breguet 690, with Gnome Rhône 14B 4/5 engines with 710 hp.

In July 1938 we ordered 12 of them, with deliveres scheduled for April-July 1939 but delayed, intended for army reconnaissance duties, to be based at F 3 in Malmslätt.

The day after the outbreak of the war in 1939 France cancelled the order. The first example flew in January 1940.

S 11, Dornier 215

After the Breguets had been cancelled Sweden inquired about Dornier Do 17. Germany was willing to export the long range reconnaissance version Do 215A-1.

Twelve were ordered in November 1939 with an option for six more.

In April 1940 Germany postponed delivery indefinitely and the aircraft were transferred to a unit which took part in the attack on Norway and later operated from Stavanger as Do 215B-0 and B-1. The order was cancelled in September 1940.

S 13/S 20/B 7/B 26, Fokker G.1/G.1b

As not enough Do 215s could be ordered Fokker was contacted. If Sweden could arrange engines it was possible to order G.1s, and since Finland had 45 Bristol Mercurys at Fokker which Sweden could buy, 18 G.1As were ordered with an option for 77 more.

Twelve of these were for long range reconnaissance with F 11 at Nyköping and designated S 13, later S 20 in the new system, the rest were bombers as B 7, later B 26.

None could be delivered due to the invasion.

Messerschmitt Bf 109

In January 1940 Sweden inquired with RLM about the purchase of 60 or 120 Bf 109s. License production of Bf 109, Bf 110, Me 210 and the engines DB 601 and Jumo 211 was negotiated in 1940 and 1941 and in Aug 1941 Sweden got the right to build DB 605s.

In Sept 1941 a promise of licence to build Bf 109 was given, but it was retracted in October the same year.
