"Warbirds" in Sweden
Operated by the Swedish air force
It's been decided (in 2000) that the Swedish air force
will continue to keep in flying condition and operate
a few examples of otherwise retired aircraft types.
This has never happened before (before the modern era
sometimes all examples of retired types were scrapped
or used as gunnery targets) and the reason is that
the history is seen as important.
The aircraft will be owned by Flygvapenmuseum and at
present F 10 is responsible for keeping the aircraft.
The aircraft types in question are:
- Saab J 29 Tunnan
The one now flying, 29570, with civilian registration
will be returned to the military register.
- Saab 32 Lansen
Operations ended in 1997, a few continued with FMV
until 1999. Now two will kept airworthy.
The first one of them to fly as a warbird was
J 32E 32512 coded F3 03 which flew again on May 16:th
2000.
An A 32A is undergoing restoration at F 7.
- Saab J 35J Draken
Two will be restored to and kept airworthy.
Operated by others
This is not a complete list!
