Personalizing and improving an F1

I like the Fällkniven F1 as it comes, but one can do things to it to make it fit the individual and his or hers uses better. This is what I did to mine:

  1. First I sharpened 30 mm of the edge closest to the handle to a smaller angle and rounded the edge bevel.
  2. As I found cutting performance improved, for what I do, I sharpened the rest of the edge to the same smaller angle, and then the part closest to the handle to an even smaller one.
  3. Then I took the diamond hone and rounded all the 90 degree (or almost 90 degrees) angles -- just a little bit, it hardly shows, but it sure makes a difference to the touch -- on the spine of the blade and on the exposed part of the tang.
  4. Lastly, I cut away almost all diamond checkering on the handle. I think I get just as good a grip on it and it sure feels more comfortable.
